::: Laidback Luke Interview
Holland’s beloved house music-loving homeboy, Laidback Luke, is on an international mission to rock clubs, win hearts and top charts. A producer and DJ with immense talent, tonnes of spirit and a steely determination to succeed, he has been on a worldwide search for the ultimate in dance floor energy since the mid-1990s. “Music is an amazing tool that can evoke powerful memories and emotions,” says Luke with a smile. “And I will not rest until I’ve given my best: I want to share as much music as possible with as many people as possible.” And with an incredibly impressive discography of 100+ recordings and a DJ diary that takes him from his studio near Amsterdam to clubs all over the world, it would seem that Luke is well on the way to achieve his goals... ::: Read the Interview
::: Photo Album | 2009.03.28 » Essential WMC 2009 | 5.2 Om @ Karu & Y [Miami]
2009.03.28
For night 5 it was off to another one of our most anticipated events every year... OM! For the third year, Om was hosting a massive event at the luxurious Karu & Y, which featured one of the most unique and gorgeous club settings that we've ever seen. Boasting an all star line-up including Kruder & Dorfmeister, Mark Farina, Colette, DJ Heather, DJ Sneak, Samantha James, DJ Fluid, and countless more, we knew there was no way this night would disappoint.
The venue was packed by the time we finally made the trek downtown, and as expected the place was full of energy. Mark Farina was in charge of the main outdoor room, and perched above the moat on the far end of the complex he ripped up chuggy bassline after chuggy bassline. In a smart move this year, the DJ booth was elevated so people from front to back to grab a piece of the action, and let the DJ assess and feel the crowd.
After Mark thoroughly dismantled the crowd with awesomeness, he turned things over to the first lady of house music... Colette. We had just seen her wow the crowd in Toronto, and her stint in Miami continued where she left off. Blending thumping beats with her gorgeous vocals and the addition of live keys this was one of those classic Miami moments where everything melts into musical bliss.
As if Colette's stunning set wasn't enough, next up was one of our favs DJ Heather. And it didn't take long for her to get her classic head bob on, which can only mean super chunky basslines to ruin a dancefloor were afoot. As the hours faded away, unfortunately due to some travel arrangements we were forced to tear ourselves away from an amazing night once again. It showed once again that if it's Om it's Essential.
