::: Laidback Luke Interview
Holland’s beloved house music-loving homeboy, Laidback Luke, is on an international mission to rock clubs, win hearts and top charts. A producer and DJ with immense talent, tonnes of spirit and a steely determination to succeed, he has been on a worldwide search for the ultimate in dance floor energy since the mid-1990s. “Music is an amazing tool that can evoke powerful memories and emotions,” says Luke with a smile. “And I will not rest until I’ve given my best: I want to share as much music as possible with as many people as possible.” And with an incredibly impressive discography of 100+ recordings and a DJ diary that takes him from his studio near Amsterdam to clubs all over the world, it would seem that Luke is well on the way to achieve his goals...

::: Photo Album | 2009.03.25 » Essential WMC 2009 | 2.4 Release Yourself w/ Roger Sanchez @ Mansion [Miami]

Capping off an incredibly busy day 2, we stopped off at the monstrous Mansion for Roger Sanchez's highly anticipated Release Yourself marathon session. Taking full control of the decks for the entire night, Roger dazzled the thousands in attendance with his trademark big room beats.

Mansion is one of those clubs in Miami that is a must see, like Space and Nikki Beach, as it's enormous main room with lofty balcony is not your typical club layout. The incredible soundsystem, rich décor and smoking hot gogo dancers definitely enhance the atmosphere. Throw in the world class DJs that play here during this week and there's no way you can miss coming to the party at least once during the conference.

Running into our good friend Martijn ten Velden, we had a chance to dissect the music. We both agreed that while it was good, it wasn't what we were expecting from Roger in Miami. Although during long sets you can expect the music to have it's ups and downs, we felt we were stuck in a hard plateau of beats. We were missing those slick vocals, cagey remixes, and peaks and valleys we've come to love from Roger. And almost as if he heard our cries… along they came.

For the last hour of the night, Roger delivered a house set for the ages. One of those musical journeys that you sit back and say THAT IS ROGER SANCHEZ, and house music aficionados know exactly what you mean. Tough beats, sexy vocals, exclusive remixes and reedits dominated, and even a fresh new handoff from Laidback Luke found its way into the mix. It may have taken a while to get there, but Roger definitely capped off the night the way only he can, and had us primed for day 3.
