 ::: Laidback Luke Interview Holland’s beloved house music-loving homeboy, Laidback Luke, is on an international mission to rock clubs, win hearts and top charts. A producer and DJ with immense talent, tonnes of spirit and a steely determination to succeed, he has been on a worldwide search for the ultimate in dance floor energy since the mid-1990s. “Music is an amazing tool that can evoke powerful memories and emotions,” says Luke with a smile. “And I will not rest until I’ve given my best: I want to share as much music as possible with as many people as possible.” And with an incredibly impressive discography of 100+ recordings and a DJ diary that takes him from his studio near Amsterdam to clubs all over the world, it would seem that Luke is well on the way to achieve his goals... ::: Read the Interview |

It's 2008 and the Winter Music Conference has descended upon us yet again. As we packed up the bags, charged up the batteries, and loaded up a ton of memory cards to capture the glory, we headed south to the glitz and glamour of South Beach, ready to reap all the spoils that the annual WMC has to offer. And what better way to kick start the next 5 days of madness then to head out to the definitive house imprint's return to the conference... Defected In The House. After a year hiatus, Defected returned in full force setting up shop in the gorgeous SET Nightclub and boasting an all-star line-up including Copyright, Hardsoul, Junior Jack & Kid Creme, DJ Spen, Joey Negro, Mr. V, Aaron Ross, DJ Gregory, Yass, Funkerman, and newly signed The Shapeshifters. With an early-arriving, and supremely energetic crowd, they were primed and ready for a proper housing and man, the stellar list of DJs didn't disappoint. While the main room was warmed perfectly by Funkerman and Hardsoul, upstairs kept it deep and soulful all night with Aaron Ross, Joey Negro, Spen, Mr. V, and Yass. But downstairs things got decidedly nasty and super-awesome as Copyright, Junior Jack & Kid Creme, and The Shapeshifters dropped the hammer and banged out some euphoric house bliss. Rounding it out was an decidedly more upbeat set from DJ Gregory that left everyone wanting more. With sitings of David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Steve Angello, Sarah Main, Hector Romero, and more house music luminaries, this was certainly THE kick-start event of the WMC and was a delectable appetizer of an amazing week ahead (if a filet mignon could be considered an appie!). Party people at heart, the pair met when Simon signed Max to the Down Boy record label that he was working for.
